Books are great, I`ll have none of
this "Reading is boring!" crap because
books fill the imagination.
Now some books are really crap such as
Wuthering heights and Lady
Chatterley's lover. These books are
supposed to be classic literature but
personally I think that Emily Bronte
should have been shot and Lady
Chatterley is about as erotic as my
armpits after karate.
Any road up, this review is gonna be
on a bloke called Raymond E. Feist.
Feist has written the spectacular
Magician series and he is one of the
best fantasy novelists since Tolkien
(Who was good but far too dull!)
Feist`s books are well worth getting
hold of as they employ all the best
bits of fantasy whilst still keeping
with real life.
{tb{I{:MAGICIAN
{A{9This was Feist's first novel, it tells
the story of Pug, an orphan boy, who
finds himself apprentice to a master
magician. Alien warriors called the
Tsurani (pronounced (silent T)
SooRanee) invade Pug's world and he
finds himself captured and taught to
be a magician on the alien world.
Meanwhile, Pug's friend, Tomas becomes
the owner of a magical sword and
armour of the mighty Ashen-Shugar,
last of the Valheru, an evil race that
lived on Midkemia (Pug's and Tomas's
planet) a millenia ago. Ashen Shugar
cared about the world and refused to
go and fight the Gods like the rest of
his kin did and when the Valheru lost
and were banished, Ashen Shugar
remained on Midkemia and freed all the
slaves of the Valheru and left his
armour knowing one day it would be
picked up by a new lord. Tomas
becomes like Ashen Shugar with some
really brilliant flash backs to the
time of the Valheru and the chaos wars
which they lost. Lots of sub plots
exist in this book like Arutha, Prince
of Crydee, going to the western
capital of Krondor to rescue his
cousin Anita and lots of others. This
book is brilliant and now it's in a
revised form too so it's an even
better bargain.

{I{:SILVERTHORN
{A{9This is the sequal to Magician. This
story is about Arutha journeying to
find a plant called The Silverthorn
that will bring his beloved Anita back
to life after she has been shot by a
poison crossbow. The story also
brings in the strange prophet
Murmandumas who leads the dark elves
and seems intent on bringing about the
death of Arutha to fulfil some
prophecy that will see the return of
his masters. Silverthorn is a very
enjoyable book and has some nice bits
of humour throughout.
{I{:A DARKNESS AT SETHANON
{A{9The third and the last of the rift war
saga, tells the tale of Arutha and a
few others journeying to finally kill
Murmandamus who seeks to bring the
Valheru back to Midkemia. Pug and
Tomas go in search of a sorcerer
called Macros the black who can help
them, one problem, Macros seemingly
dies at the end of Magician. This is
a very good book with a nice ending,
if a little disapointing.

{I{:DAUGHTER OF THE EMPIRE
{A{9This is the first book of a trilogy
that Feist wrote with Jenny Wurts. It
is set on the alien world of Kelewan
where the Tsurani come from. It can
be very boring at times because it is
based on political intrigue rather
than action.
{I{:SERVANT OF THE EMPIRE
{A{9This is the second book in the trilogy
written by Feist and Wurts. This time
the story is half political, half
action and is not bad as stories go.
{I{:MISTRESS OF THE EMPIRE
{A{9The last and the best of the Empire
series. More action than the other
two put together. It's a very good
book but is let down by the fact that
it is very similar to A DARKNESS AT
SETHANON.
{I{:PRINCE OF THE BLOOD
{A{9This book is set twenty years after
the rift war and tells the tale of two
princes journeying to a foreign land
to pay host to an emporess. One of
the princes goes missing, believed
dead, and the other one just gets
shagged all the time. It's a
different tale altogether from the
rest of Feist's books and is a very
good book to read.
{tb
{I{:THE KINGS BUCCANEER
{A{9The most recent book set on Midkemia
is set 9 years after PRINCE OF THE
BLOOD and follows the story of Prince
Nicholas stopping the snake people in
an attempt to bring their Mistress, A
Valheru long banished, back to
Midkemia. Very similar to Magician
but a very good book all the same.
{A{8Feist has written another book called
FARIE TALE but I only read the first 5
chapters as it was complete crap. He
tried to mimic Clive Barker but failed
miserably. Other than that Feist's
books are well worth reading. But
with 8 books all based around the same
story line if you`re not an avid fan
then you`ll be very bored.
{A{:
End.
